Location: Hallstatt, Austria

Date: October 14-16, 2021

While Lucas had his own time away for Volleyball, Logan and I decided to hit up a place I had on my bucket list for years... Hallstatt, Austria!! Right before I went, my mom mentioned she saw it was described as the inspiration for Disney Frozen's town of "Arendelle", and I could definitely see that. Living amongst the towering mountains, right on the beautifully calm lake, with all the adorably picturesque homes and buildings. Get outta here!

Right before we went, I prepared myself for rain and too many clouds to fully see the mountains (I guess Fall time has a lot of rain), but I was definitely gifted with a way better reality! As we were driving along the lake approaching the town, I was beyond surprised by the amazing view of all the clouds hugging the mountains and the moody lighting just accentuating the autumn colours on the trees! It was incredible! This was the trip that solidified my love for Fall over any other season.

First off, Logan did amazing! From Friedrichshafen, the drive was about 5 hours with a couple stops to feed the little guy. He napped, looked around, chattered and giggled along the way with very little fussing. It made the journey there that much better as we started our trip! We stayed in a town about a 5-minute drive from Hallstatt (to save on some cash since staying directly in the town is crazy expensive. It's a big tourist town after all!), called Obertraun. So if you ever find yourself there and don't want to pay the 'Hallstatt prices', then hit up Obertraun! Logan and I were a 1-minute walk off the lake in our hotel and loved walking there to watch some ducks and all the clouds roll out off the lake first thing in the morning.

I found it funny how much my travel-wanderings had changed since having Logan. While I still saw all I had wanted and definitely enjoyed the trip, I found it a much slower and different kind of pace, which was actually so nice! We sat and watched a lot of ducks and swans (Logan LOVES watching any kind of animals, it's adorable), a few feeding and diaper-changing breaks here and there, and even found a little park where another boy just gushed over Logan, trying to pull him around the playground with him! It was so cute. But these kind of "pit stops" never would have filled our days in past years. However, I would never trade it! I'll treasure these memories with Logan so much!

In between all the duck sightings, we wandered into a few cute shops (I guess some Austrian areas are known for their beautiful ceramics), walked around the Old Town main square, took a cable car up to the well-known Sky Walk, which is a UNESCO World Heritage viewpoint. We also found a few of the "classic" view spots that everyone photographs, but to be honest, some of my favourite photos of the trip were from NOT those spots. There's just such cute views in every corner of this town! Anyways, enough of my blabbering and onto the photos. Hope you enjoy!
