Polignano a Mare

When Lucas and I knew we had one more free weekend before we were flying back to Canada for the summer, we decided to find a sunny, beachy vacation spot to explore. One of our local friends recommended Polignano - a beautiful, southern Italian town right on the Adriatic Sea. We knew we were going to enjoy the sun, some drinks and amazing street views, but I don't think we expected this gorgeous coast town!

We took a short train ride from Bari to Polignano a Mare, and instantly tasted the salty breeze in the air. It felt like an Italian version of a Greek Island with all the white-washed buildings, amazing colours and gorgeous water. We ended up falling asleep in the sun for an hour at the beach, and woke up to excited cheering from people in the water who appeared to be having a "Flyboard" competition (if you're not sure what that is, essentially it's a hydro jetpack, which Phil Dunphy proudly demonstrates on Modern Family). Once we felt rested and somewhat sun-kissed, we continued exploring the amazing town!

We stopped for some snacks, a few pictures here and there, and then settled down at a cute patio surrounded by amazingly lush flowers. We were enjoying the area so much that we decided to hunker down with a bottle of wine while we played some cards. It was actually heaven.

We ended the evening with a self-made market aperitivo plate for dinner while we watched the sun go down over the white-washed buildings sitting on the side of a cliff. Honestly, it was one of my favourite days together.
