A friend and I had been talking about doing a sunrise hike for probably a year before we finally settled on a date and committed to it. We had it all planned - snacks, coffee ready, had our alarms set, and headed out for our 2am coffees before we hit the road! We got to the pitch-black, empty parking lot some time after 3am and began assembling our flashlights, headlamps, shoes, and backpacks (of course with bear spray and bear bells), and then set out for the trail!
Not going to lie, it was pretty creepy in some areas, and our minds definitely played tricks on us with sounds in the distance or little movements slightly ahead of us on the trail. But we trekked our way up; probably faster than we expected just to get out of the bush/trees and into open space!
We made it up to our set spot where we were going to lay a blanket and open our thermos of hot, fresh coffee, and then we just waited. I had imagined the view and beautiful colours the sun and sky were going to offer, but it was so much better. We played soft worship music in the background as we chatted and drank our coffees (and of course did the girly thing of taking pictures), and then the sun came out... oh, is God's creation a breath-taking experience!
